Anuj Khanna Sohum is a serial entrepreneur and innovator. Anuj started as an entrepreneur at the age of 20, while enrolled in a computer engineering course, on a Singapore Airlines scholarship, at the National University of Singapore (NUS). His first company, Anitus Technologies, was acquired in 2001 by MCSB and rechristened myMCSB. His second company, SecLore Technology, was acquired by Herald Logic in 2007.
In 2006, he founded Affle with the bold ambition of becoming a global leader in the mobile media space. Using his entrepreneurial acumen, ability to leverage technology trends and user insights he has strategically transformed Affle into a smart media company. He also founded ad2c in 2012, by enabling the joint venture between D2C Inc, Japan and the Affle Group, Singapore and simultaneously acquiring MobiMasta India, with the ambition of vitalizing the Asian mobile advertising industry.
Anuj has a keen interest in driving technology and new media innovations. He enjoys the challenge of making sense out of emerging trends and technologies and transforming innovative ideas into successful businesses. An active evangelist of the smart mobile media, Anuj participates in industry forums to further the cause of the mobile media industry and towards improving industry standards and practices. Anuj is passionate about promoting and exploring entrepreneurship.
Anuj is an alumnus of the National University of Singapore, Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Stanford University, Graduate School of Business.
ANUJ KUMAR Co-founder & CEO, Affle
Anuj Kumar was among the first to join the Affle founding team beginning 2006, while the company was in early stages of inception. Having worked with large companies in the areas of marketing, advertising and technology he took the plunge to become a co-founder at Affle, as he was supremely excited by the business model & significant untapped opportunities in the digital media domain.
Serving as the Executive Director for South Asia region, Anuj played a pivotal role in building & growing Affle. He forged important relationships, integral to Affle’s business and to its success as a mobile media company. At an industry level Anuj played a key role in growing the mobile advertising industry in the region. In 2011, Anuj was promoted to the position of CEO of Affle.
Over the last five years, under his leadership, his team has implemented hundreds of campaigns for over 200 brands from a wide variety of sectors and forged successful strategic alliances and partnerships with several top companies in the Digital Media & Telecom domain. Anuj is a regular speaker at industry events in Asia.
Prior to co-founding Affle, Anuj has worked with large global brands like ESPN STAR Sports, GroupM Mindshare and JWT.
Anuj holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi and a Masters from the Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA).
BEN FONES Co-founder and CEO, Affle Media Lab
Ben Fones joined Affle as a cofounder in the year 2006. His double degree in Computer Information systems and Management Information systems adds to his strength as a techno-entrepreneur.
Starting as an Executive Director for South East Asia, Ben was responsible for managing Affle’s business across markets. Ben also manages Affle’s regional advertising sales and overall operations. In August 2012, Ben assumed the position of the CEO of Affle Media Lab, launched to drive product and technology innovations.
In 1996, Ben started his career consulting for IBM focusing on the Banking and Finance industries. He moved to Edgematrix, a mobile solutions company in 1997 as one of the early members of the core team. Ben rose within the ranks to become Country Manager Singapore. At Edgematrix he worked extensively with clients in the telecom space. His various successes included growing some key accounts to yield million plus dollar revenues.
Ben is also the founder and non-executive director of a successful software company called Okilabs. The company specializes in web and mobile solutions providing systems integration services for telecom operators and enterprises.
Ben is an Engineer with a double degree in Computer Information and Management Information Systems from Bentley College USA. He gave up his Master’s in Business Administration halfway to pursue entrepreneurship. Ben enjoys playing golf and sports a single digit handicap.
CHARLES YONG CTO, Affle
Charles Yong joined Affle as an advisor in 2006, was promoted to Product Management Director in 2008 and was appointed as the CTO in 2012. He is a telecom industry veteran and an experienced technologist with over 20 years of consulting and programming design experience.
At Affle, Charles leads a multi-country team of engineers responsible for researching and developing digital media products covering a range of devices from PCs to smart phones to java based handsets. Charles also manages Affle's existing product portfolios, while ensuring their smooth technical functioning and the innovation development lifecycle processes.
Prior to joining Affle, Charles was the founder and CTO of Okilabs. A company he continues to run and provide technical direction to. Charles has also consulted with Accenture and Sun Microsystems in helping architect and managing their multi-discipline teams, liaising with multiple divisions within client's organisations like SIA and DHL.
Prior to founding Okilabs, Charles was the Director of Solution Consulting at Edgematrix, where he led the professional services business unit in nine countries across Asia Pacific.
Charles holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) in Electrical Engineering from Monash University.
SANKALP MEHROTRA Regional Director - BD, Affle
Sankalp Mehrotra joined Affle in 2008 as the Regional Director of Business Development. An important member of the Affle management team Sankalp drives the business development portfolio in South Asia. Sankalp relocated from Singapore to join Affle, where he was the Group Director on P&G and new businesses for ZenithOptimedia.
Sankalp is a highly results oriented professional. He has consistently delivered year on year successes across all agencies, clients and markets that he has worked in.
Sankalp started his career in India with Mudra, an advertising agency part of DDB worldwide, working on blue-chip accounts like Nestle, HBO, Mitsubishi and Samsung. He was then hand picked by Samsung as a founding member of the media set-up at Cheil Communications India. Post Cheil, he worked with ZenithOptimedia in India, as a director on the Nokia account, and then for ZenithOptimedia in Malaysia as the Head for Communications Strategy, on businesses totaling more than USD 100Mn.
Sankalp holds a Masters from the Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA).
VIPUL KEDIA Regional Director - Partnerships, Affle
Vipul Kedia was one of the earliest to join Affle’s India office in 2006. As the leaders of the Partnerships team, Vipul is responsible for forging & managing important strategic partnerships with publishers, carriers and other key partners.
At Affle he has played a key role in launching products and building solid business partnerships with some of the largest organisations in the digital media and telecoms domain.
Prior to joining Affle, Vipul worked with IBM business consulting specializing in the Telecom Practice. He worked on projects dealing with diverse aspects of both business and technology including Service Delivery Platforms, Content Portals and Mobile Number Portability for Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
Vipul holds a Bachelor of Technology (Honors) in Computer Science Engineering from IIIT Hyderabad and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM Ahmedabad.
Director - BD, Affle Indonesia
Siddarth Correya first joined Affle in 2007. He was a part of the team that helped grow Affle’s India business exponentially. After spending three years at Affle, he moved on to join One97, a leading Indian VAS company followed by Nokia Location and commerce. Siddarth rejoined Affle in February 2012. This time to work out of Jakarta, Indonesia in Affle’s business and operations division.
Siddarth describes himself as a dyed in the wool sales person. He had made an important contribution to Affle’s revenues in his first innings and continues to score on his second start as well.
Siddarth has over seven years of sales experience. He started his career in 2005, with the Times of India, India’s leading media conglomerate, subsequent to completing his masters from the University of Wales. Siddarth has a flair for languages. He is fluent in English, Hindi, Bengali, Thai and is now working on Bahasa Indonesia.
Associate Director - Mobile Products, Affle Media Lab
Alie Tan joined Affle in 2006. As the lead of the Affle Media Lab development team, he oversees the architecture, design and implementation of the projects both internal and external.
At Affle he played in integral role in the early development of our flagship products such as SMS2.0 and Pinch and has risen through the ranks quickly. Alie draws on his technical skills and knowledge to understand the complexities and challenges customers face and to lead his team as they analyze and address customer requirements with successful solutions.
Prior to joining Affle he worked with inTouch Pte Ltd as Senior Software Engineer, developing technology solutions for Symbian and J2ME phones. It was during this stint where he led the notable implementation of the mobile content application called "AirAlbum" for Nokia, which was used in every S60 3rd Edition device.
Alie holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Bina Nusantara University. A coder at heart, he was the winner of the prestigious SDN (Symbian Developer Network) Wiki Competition and Symbian "Because of the Code" Competition in 2007.
DR. ALEX LIU
Associate Director - Pre Sales Consulting, Affle Media Lab
Liu Song, Alex is a mobile innovation enthusiast. He was one of the earliest team members joining Affle in 2006. As part of the Affle Media Lab team, Alex provides architecting, analysis, design and development of mobile enablement applications and products to our clients and partners.
At Affle he led the Online Services Group which was the core server architecture running the entire SMS2.0 platform with more than 10 deployments across 5 countries.
Prior to joining Affle he worked with Datang Telecom Group. He played a key role in the project team to successfully design, implement, and rollout the first version of integrated billing system for China Telecom.
Alex holds a Bachelors of Engineering in Computer Science and Technology from HUST, China. He has published 12 research papers and has a PhD in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University.
